Senior's End of Year Report

Geoff recaps on the year's Matches

The Seniors Inter Club Matches have now ended with the following results, 19 Matches played Won 6, Lost 8, Drawn 2 and 2 were Rained Off with 1 Cancelled due to Cuddington unable to get a team together. Sadly Cuddington have revised the number of matches they will play in 2020 and due to the problems of raising a team have decided to drop Shirley Park off their match roster. The matches against West Kent from next year will be played Home and Away on alternate years. A lot of clubs seem to be having trouble raising teams at the moment so my thanks go to Brendan for his great work in getting the 12 or 16 players for each of our matches. My thanks also go to the various gentleman who acted as Captain of the Day. Next years fixture sheet will be posted on the Seniors Notice Board adjacent to Locker Room Door after Christmas and we welcome new members to come and play for the club in our friendly but competitive matches.
Our course gets lots of favourable comments from those visiting clubs we play so well done to Richard and his men.
The Seniors AGM will be on Monday 4th November after the Stableford Competition in the morning. The Seniors Christmas Texas Scramble will be on Monday 2nd December and the Seniors Christmas Lunch will be on Sunday 8th December sign up sheets will be posted on our Notice Board adjacent to the Locker Room Door. Thanks go to Ted Smith who organises all the Seniors Stableford and Trophy Competitions through out the year.

Senior's March Stableford

A report from Geoff

On Monday 4th March the Seniors held their March Stableford Competition with a very small field of only 10 Players. The weather overnight had been very wet but the course and greens had held up well with only a few problems of filled bunkers and standing water. The winner was Terry Chard with 33 points, with Graham Smith second on 31 points who unfortunately incurred a 2 shot penalty by hitting a playing partners ball whilst putting out on the green ( always get ball marked just in case ) and a further 1 shot lost due to being unable to drop his ball within a water filled bunker not nearer the hole.

The Chris Eldridge Trophy Competition will be played next Monday 11th March and on April 25th there is Seniors and Ladies Texas Scramble with a meal. Sign up sheets will be posted on the Seniors Notice Board adjacent to the Locker Room Door.

Thanks to all who played on Monday and well done Terry.

Seniors Matches and Trophy Competitions

Geoff Dunkley with a report on successes through the year.

Our last Seniors Match against other clubs finished on Monday 24th September with an Away Win against Sundridge Park. Well done to all who played.
Over the past year our teams should have played 20 (10 Home and 10 Away) Matches against Local Clubs. Unfortunately 3 were cancelled due to one team or the other being unable to provide enough players, 1 Match against Addington Palace away was abandoned halfway due to adverse weather conditions. The other Sixteen resulted in Shirley Park winning 6, Loosing 9 with 1 Drawn.

Our thanks go to Match Secretary Brendan Foley for all his skills of gentle persuasion to enable us to provide full teams for each Match. We are not the only club who has trouble raising teams of 16 and it may be necessary to review that number for 2019.
The 2019 Matches start again in March next year and all Seniors are welcome to put their name forward for both Home and Away Matches. Sign up sheets will be posted on the Seniors Notice Board adjacent to the Locker Room Door.
My thanks to all who played and those who volunteered to be Captain for the Day.

Monday 8th October saw the last Seniors Trophy Competition ( Vin Howard ) played which was won by Neville D’Aranjo with a score of 37 Points. Well done Neville. These Competitions along with the Seniors Stablefords are organised by Ted Smith and our thanks go to him for all his time and effort in making each one a success.
The next Seniors Stableford is Monday 5th November followed by the Seniors AGM in the Dining Room and on Monday 10th December there will be the Seniors Christmas Texas Scramble so look out for both sign up sheets.

Look forward to seeing you all on 5th November.

Seniors Instruction Video

Seniors Section

The Club has a very active Senior Section for golfers of 55 and over. A regular fixture list of matches against local Golf Clubs means that Members get to play many different courses, and forge great friendships with like minded golfers.

Regular "roll-ups" of Seniors are a welcome feature, predominantly on Monday mornings, but including other days of the week.

Everyone is welcome to come along or put their name down for any of the fixtures or competitions on the Seniors Notice Board in the hall way

Seniors Stableford

On a grey dismal Monday morning 21 Seniors golfers gathered at the club having made the bold decision to take to the course to play in the February Stableford competition. The conditions were far from pleasant as the rain continued all through the day, but Bill Rookes managed a very creditable 34 to take the first prize.
Many thanks to all those who made the effort to play despite the poor conditions. The next Seniors Competition will be the Chris Eldridge Trophy on Monday 19th March and the sign up sheet is posted on the Seniors Notice Board adjacent to the Locker room door.
Also for anyone interested in playing in the Seniors matches against other clubs there are sign up sheets for each match home and away also on the Seniors notice board.
Look forward to seeing you all on the 19th March.

Seniors Match report vs Cuddington

Our second Seniors Match of the season was away at Cuddington on a beautiful Spring morning. 16 players under the Captaincy of Andrew Baird took to the fairways and although we all tried our best Cuddington won by 4&1/2 to 3&1/2.
Golf was followed by a good 2 course lunch with coffee and a slice of chocolate Brownie for a cost of £15.
The next match is at home against Banstead on Monday 23rd April and Brendan our Match Secretary still requires a few more players please so anyone who would like to play in this match or any of the other matches please enter your names on the sign up sheets adjacent to the locker room door.

Players are also required for the Ladies/Seniors Texas scramble to be played on Thursday 19th April. Golf is followed by lunch and prize giving. Sign up sheet on Seniors notice board.

Thanks to all who played at Cuddington.
